16. What type of visa do I need?

You must apply for a D-2 (student) visa at the Korean Embassy or Consulate in your country after receiving your admission letter.

- Exchange students must apply for a D-2-6 visa.

- Visiting students must apply for a D-2-8 visa.

Please make sure to select the correct visa type based on your program category.

17. How do I apply for a student visa (D-2)?

A

After receiving your Certificate of Admission from Hanyang University, you must submit it along with other required documents to the Korean Embassy/Consulate.

18. Do I need to register as a foreign resident?

A

Yes. All international students staying over 90 days must apply for Foreign Resident Registration within 90 days of entry.

19. Is health insurance mandatory?

A

Yes. Students must have international health insurance before receiving their Residence Card and are automatically enrolled in National Health Insurance after registration.

Since it may take up to 6–8 weeks after the semester begins to receive your Residence Card, your international insurance must be valid for at least two full months after the start of the semester to ensure continuous coverage.

20. What is the difference between international and national health insurance?

A

International insurance is required upon arrival until you receive your Residence Card. After registration, you will be enrolled in Korea's National Health Insurance, which offers broader local coverage.

21. When is the orientation, and is it mandatory?

A

Orientation is held 2–3 days before the semester begins. It is mandatory, and students must attend to receive essential academic and visa-related guidance.

22. What should I prepare before arriving in Korea?

A

There is no official pre-arrival checklist provided by the OIA. Students should ensure they have completed the following: apply for the dormitory (if applicable), arrange their own housing if they do not plan to stay in the dormitory, complete course registration, fully complete the visa application process, obtain the visa, and book their flight to arrive before orientation.

23. Will someone pick me up at the airport?

A

Airport pick-up is not provided. However, detailed directions and transportation guides will be provided in advance.

24. Can I arrive later than the official arrival date?

A

Late arrivals are discouraged. If unavoidable, you must inform the OIA in advance and may miss important sessions.

25. What is the Visiting Study & Work Experience track?

A

It is a special track where students take 1 course and participate in a non-paid internship in Seoul or Gyeonggi Province for 20–40 hours per week.

26. Is the work experience paid?

A

No. The internship is unpaid, but students will gain professional experience and receive a Certificate of Completion.

27. What types of companies or industries can I work in?

A

Students are matched with companies in fields such as IT, Computer Science, Marketing, and Business Administration.

28. How do I apply for the work experience component?

A

You must submit your resume and complete an online interview 4–5 months prior to the program start date. Detailed instructions will be provided via email.
